Biography:

Johanna Hauser, clarinetist, has presented and performed in over one-hundred concerts as director of the Kits Classics and Carnegie Classics concert series. She began her career in New York City playing with groups such as Dance Theatre of Harlem, the Brooklyn Philharmonia Chamber Players, and the Group for Contemporary Music before relocating to Vancouver in the late 80’s. An eclectic musician, her work ranges form classical to progressive rock to free improv, and solo to orchestral. She has recorded for the CBC and the National Film Board among others. Standing with local First Nations to protect the environment, Johanna has taken action resulting in two arrests and one conviction for criminal contempt. She says that’s the least she can do to express her gratitude for living on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish people. Johanna graduated from Vassar College (BA) and the Manhattan School of Music (MM).
